01. The Challenge & Solution

Introduction:

Smart Marketing was approached by the retail store, Sedgars.com, who had been struggling to drive significant online sales and increase revenue on their online store. Despite having a well-designed website and a wide range of attractive products, the client was not getting enough visibility online to reach potential customers.

Objective:

 

The goal of the partnership between Smart Marketing and Sedgars.com was to increase online sales and revenue within the first year of working together, with the aim of reaching and maintaining a 7-figure monthly revenue within 2 years.

02. Strategy

To achieve the desired results, Smart Marketing proposed a comprehensive digital marketing strategy that would take advantage of the reach and targeting capabilities of SEO, Google Ads, Facebook Ads, and Email Marketing.

The first step was to conduct market research to identify the target audience and their pain points, as well as to gather information about the competition. Sedgars is unique in the fact that it is a department store with multiple brands, and various types of products.

Therefore, multiple customer avatars had to be created to understand each different type of customer.

Furthermore, these groups of customers would need to be segmented by the products they were interested in.

Then, the team developed a strong value proposition and messaging that would resonate with each segment of the audience.

Next, Smart Marketing set up all the website tracking required to collect first-party data from their customers to improve the understanding of how their customers shop

Armed with the ability to collect data, analyze data and make data-driven decisions, Smart Marketing created and optimized ad campaigns to drive sales, while increasing ad spend progressively.

The main platforms that were used to achieve these results included:

  • Google Ads to capture high-intent of Google Search and Google Shopping
  • Facebook Ads to drive targeted traffic to the website.
  • The team also collected over 50,000 customer emails and thereafter crafted email marketing campaigns that would nurture leads and encourage repeat purchases

In the first year of working together, Sedgars revenue increased by 3000%, far exceeding the initial goal of a 50% increase. By the end of the second year, ABC Online Store’s revenue had grown by 6666% its initial level, completely exceeding the final goal of the partnership.

 

In addition to the revenue increase, the number of website visitors, online sales and email subscribers also increased significantly. The website’s bounce rate decreased by 15%, and the average order value increased by 25%.

04. Conclusion

This case study demonstrates the effectiveness of using a combination of Google Ads, Facebook Ads and Email Marketing for an ecommerce business.
